Hope in a Doomscrolling World

Getting the news in my parents’ generation was a simple matter. You got your local daily paper, turned on one of three local news stations at 6 pm, and chose your Network news (Huntley-Brinkley, Cronkite, and whoever was on ABC) at 7 pm. If you were a news geek, you had a subscription to Time or Newsweek. The prevailing assumption was “If I can’t get it there, it probably isn’t worth calling it news.” In those days there were news outlets. The concept was that, if you needed news, you would “plug into” an outlet and get it. Now there are news feeds.
